It's About How You Laugh Out Of Pity

You may know them from their hit single All Over You, or from a mix of FUSE and ALTERNATIVE PRESS, or you may not know them at all; but The Spill Canvas is a force to be reckon with. With lyrics that are filled with emotion and the singer's vocals enough to bring a tear to your eye, that is if you are listening to their song Lullaby or Secret Oath. If you are looking for something fast beat and you could possible jump up and down too (( no you do not dance to this type of music its not the grinding type)), you would most certainly listen to All Over You. The band was meant to be acoustic, but adding the other instruments gives it a poppy, punk version.

If you are looking for something to cheer you up and make you smile this is it only in a slowed down version with lyrics that have to be truly listened to in order to understand.

Just Like Broken Glass To Me

Now i am well aware that i have already written a post about Panic! at the Disco. BUT i am just so overwhelmed by the release of their new album, Pretty. Odd. The lyrics are something to desire and there is on song in particular that i relate to so i shall share it for this post.

SHE HAD THE WORLD

She held the world upon a string
But she didn't ever hold me
Spun the stars on her fingernails
But it never made her happy
Cause she couldn't ever have me
She said she won the world at a carnival
But she could never win me
Cause she couldn't ever catch me

I, I know why
Because when I look in her eyes
I just see the sky
When I look in her eyes
Well I, just see the sky

I don’t love you I'm just passing the time
You could love me if I knew how to lie
But who could love me?
I am out of my mind
Throw an old line out to sea
To see if I can catch a dream

The sun was always in her eyes

She didn't even see me
But that girl had so much love
she'd wanna kiss you all the time
Yeah, she'd wanna kiss you all the time

She said she won the world at a carnival
But I'm sure it didn’t ruin her
Just made her more interesting
I'm sure it didn’t ruin her
Just made her more interesting

I, I know why
Because when I look in her eyes
I just see the sky
When I look in her eyes
Well I, I just see the sky

I don’t love you I'm just passing the time
You could love me if I knew how to lie
But who could love me?
I am out of my mind
Throw an old line out to sea
To see if I can catch a dream

this song is amazing to me. i think its a story written in song form. The story of a girl who wanted love in a friend, but he was scared and cold to her for he didn't know. She was so enthusiastic on life, but only wanted love.
now tell me what you think

No .Lyrical. Title. Today.

Concerts.

They are what makes or breaks a band, artist, group, whatever you shall call it. Its when you often find out if your favorite singer is real or fake. If what they are singing is a voice gifted to them or a voice created by a computer. Yes, concerts can make you fall in love again or break your heart. But what makes a concert good? Is it the show that is provided like Panic!at the disco puts on for their audience? or is it the artist and the audience like it is for Modest Mouse? OR is it cold hearted strictly professional like it is for the Hush Sound. Each artist is different some are all performance, some are wanting to take time to connect to their audience, others get so into the music its love, others treat it like a business deal.

Each concert is a new experience. A new way to live and listen to music. It can be such a romanticized event sometimes for those who truly love an artist's music. A chance to get lost in the music. Concerts are one big gathering. Sometimes they stand for something Woodstock, Aids benefit concerts, Cancer benefit concerts. There is just something about them that is moving....

Watching Airplanes

Now this post may shock some, I actually like a country artist, well really a few to be exact. Its part of being a music critic i suppose, you have to listen to all types of genres. So i branched out. My best friend introduced me to Gary Allen who has an amazing voice, I am proud to say his new CD, Living Hard. I bought this album for my friend cause i cant play her ipod in my car when ever we were on our way to a sad event. She loves the song Watching Airplanes. So when she got out the car the next day i rolled down the widows and dared to listen to the rest. Squinting my eyes ready to bare the worst, i was amazed when the next track didn't send me rushing to turn my CD player off. Gary Allen holds song with lyrics that aren't just about a woman finding a man's tractor sexy! They are meaningful and hold character.

This artist amazed me proving me wrong of my stereotype on country music. From now on ill listen to whatever whenever... who knows i could find something great!

It's nine in the afternoon....

when i first started listening to 96.5 the buzz i was obsessed and first semester my eighth grade year i was getting ready and Afentra (spelling?) introduced a new "underground" band called Panic! at the Disco. Oh yes said Panic! at the Disco. The song they played was lying is the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off. I don't know if it was their witty song titles, or Brandon Urie's sweet voice that won me over, but i became obsessed. I bought their CD and memorized all the songs, and when i heard they were coming to Kansas City i freaked out and made sure i had a ticket. May i say, it was more then worth it. Panic! at the Disco puts on one of the most amazing performances you will ever see. I remember listening to the Hush Sound and wanting to get back the moments in my life that i wasted hearing them play INDOORS, now i have no problem with the Hush Sound, i actually love them. But they are not at all a band for indoors, the sound was extremely loud for the little theater of the Uptown. Then a band worthy of praise came out, The Dresdon Dolls, putting on a performance that was unforgettable. Finally the lights dimmed and the new Fab Four came out and wooed their audience. It was a performance that was simply unforgettable. Putting on an act much like that of a circus they kept their audience entertained from the time they got on the stage till it was time to call it quits. Soon after the boys' tour ended it was time to get busy and write a new album. Rumors of them escaping to a cabin and reinventing their sound were quick to spread. I grew very uneasy cause Panic! was about the only eme-esc band that i even enjoyed listening to. Then it came to my attention one day that Panic! had released a new single, Nine in the Afternoon. I quickly had to take a listen and instantly fell in love all over again. This time with a new sound, they are back and better then ever. But it came to my concern that they sounded very flamiliar and then it hit me as i was watching FUSE and they boys were in an interview and they had said they had been compared to the Beatles! That was exactly it! I highly suggest listening to this stupendous band! They are well worth it!

I Was True As The Sky Is Blue

It is Tuesday, probably my favorite day of the week because One Tree Hill is on. On One Tree Hill is an up and rising artist name Kate Voegele. Voegele was found on Myspace and adopted by Myspace records. She has the sound of sultry blues and indie rock. Her songs often have either strong guitar base or piano, on account of that she plays both. Voegele has just released an album called Don't Look Away that can be bought on the CW's website, Itunes, or at Target! I am absolutely in love with the sound of her voice and her songs. All i can say is check her out and watch her on One Tree Hill tonight as MIA. You wont regret it!

life ain't alwasy beautiful

Going off my last blog i thought i might share a song that got me through a lot and share why. But in order to do so, you must first know the song and be familiar with its lyrics:

When I see your smile
Tears run down my face I can't replace
And now that I'm strong I have figured out
How this world turns cold and it breaks through my soul
And I know I'll find deep inside me I can be the one

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

It's okay. It's okay. It's okay.
Seasons are changing
And waves are crashing
And stars are falling all for us
Days grow longer and nights grow shorter
I can show you I'll be the one

I will never let you fall (let you fall)
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all (through it all)
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

Cuz you're my, you're my, my, my true love, my whole heart
Please don't throw that away
Cuz I'm here for you
Please don't walk away and
Please tell me you'll stay, stay

Use me as you will
Pull my strings just for a thrill
And I know I'll be okay
Though my skies are turning gray

I will never let you fall
I'll stand up with you forever
I'll be there for you through it all
Even if saving you sends me to heaven

The song is called Guardian Angel by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. In my opinion it is one of the most depressing songs you will ever hear. I would call it a love song, because maybe it was one, but to me it is something more. It can be a love song towards anyone; a friend, family member, etc. And like i said in my last post this song helped me get through my grandmother's passing. It is easy for me to relate this song to her and how it felt in those final moments. That's the beauty of a song i suppose. It isn't the fact you can dance to it or even sing a long to it. Anyone can do that, but to be able to relate to a song and actually listen to the lyrics, you begin to feel like it has become a part of you. This song will always be a part of my soundtrack. When i look back to that area of my life this song will always pop into my head. Finding a song like that isn't just for me, people do it everyday. For my friend right now Watching Airplanes by Gary Allen is the soundtrack of her remorse. For me it is Eyes Open by Snow Patrol because i feel so often we must open our eyes to see whats really in front of us. A good song it like a amazing painting. You can have the most beautiful canvas (much like a melody) but with out the paint ( the meaningful lyrics) its nothing but a canvas.

Your Guardian Angel Lyrics

and i'm taking all your memories off the shelf

Movies often have soundtracks. Good, bad, mediocre. But sometimes life writes its own soundtracks. Recently their was a death amongst my friends, and i noticed how my best friend reacted to their loss. As i rode along side them in the car they handed me to their ipod and said "play something, anything, just not sad." I quickly plugged it in and played a Buckcherry song that we loved. Then we moved onto Low by Flow Rida, then a few more funny songs. Then my friend asked me to play a song that was representative of the person we had lost. I held her hand and we sang along. All of this reminding me of a few years back when i lost my grand mother. Certain songs got me through the day: My little Girl by Tim McGraw, Guardian Angel by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Memory by Sugarcult. I never realized until that moment today when i was riding with my friend that in times of sorrow we write our own soundtracks of songs that make us think of a certain someone or time and place that we wish we could go back to.

you may not agree, and think this is my attempt to share my sob story.... but think about it.

write a soundtrack.

But i'm tongue tied and terrified of what i'll say

If you were forced to make a choice to listen to one band, and one band only for the rest of your life, what would it be? It would have to be a band that fit all moods; something you listen to when you sad, happy, angry. A choice like this for some people would be extremely hard to do. So here are some extremely good bands to listen to when you are feeling a mix of emotions and need a good tune.

1. Mayday Parade: a sample of their lyrics is the title of this blog. They are a mix of alternative and emo lyrics that portray stories in the song. Often about romance, the songs are easy to memorize and sing a long too. The band also give a good level of fast songs and slow ones, making their CD easy to fit to any mood. The singer's voice is mellow, yet strong, that can easily persuade you to fall in love with the band.

"Let's not pretend like you're alone tonight (I know he's there) You're probably hanging out and making eyes (while across the room, he stares) I bet he gets the nerve to walk the floor And ask my girl to dance, and she'll say yes"
-Miserable At Best

2.Bright Eyes: Making their first big break in 1998, Bright Eyes is an indie-folk rock band that can captivate you into a world of good music. All mellow and low key, Bright Eyes is a band that brings lyrics you have to think about but can easily fall in love with and sing along to.

"Lately I've been wishing I had one desire
Something that would make me never want another
Something that would make it so that nothing mattered
All would be clear then
But I guess I'll have to settle for a few brief moments
And watch it all dissolve into a single second
And try to write it down into a perfect sonnet
or one foolish line"
-A Perfect Sonnet

3. New Found Glory: introduced their first album Its All About The Girls in 1997, but are probably known best for Catalyst released in 2004. New Found Glory has a very poppy sound rather then punk. But are far better then anything Simple Plan or Good Charlotte could ever be. Also New Found Glory started to cover older songs in 2000 with the cd From The Screen To Your Stereo. With songs like That Thing You Do and (Everything I Do) I Do It For You. In 2007 New Found Glory released the second volume of the cd with an amazing version of Kiss Me and a remake of the classic song Dont You ( Forget About Me) from the movie The Breakfast Club. Proving they are able to play any song, NFG is great to listen to for any kinda mood you can think of.

"And I can tell you’re going through the motions
I figured you were acting out your part
Once again, we’re playing off emotion
Which one of us will burn until the end?"
-All Down Hill From Here

so here is my list, my top 3 bands that if it were me, i would take one of them with me. But is all up to you. So my question that i would love answered is if you had to listen to one band and one band only for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Well see what you wanna see

It occured to me on my break from writing that everyone has a view on music, what is good whats bad. Wether a band is considered a certain genera or not. But they can be extremely closed minded and think that they are constantly right. However, music is open to many interpretations. I see music as something that can help me get over something. Or cheer me up in a way. To others its simply a social thing, for parties. A dance enthusiasts uses music to find a beat, only simply an accessory. Good quality music to me, like the Beatles, is merely something the movie Accross the Universe was based off of. It's all different to everyone. Ipods can be something that holds your world, or is just something to block out the world. I need music. When im down i listen to In my Room by the Beach Boys. When im hanging with one of my friends we listen to LOW by... flow rida? If i have a crush i listen to Tela Flora, and if im angry i listen to Norma Jean. You don't have to like just one type of music. This undefines me from any genera of music. I like it all, although i do prefer alternative rock music over must. But i am still open to many different types. Music is just music, not a popularity contest or something worth fighting over.
